Yoxford Oxfayre 2010 ~ Heroes & Villains

Chairman’s address

Heroes and Villains - when this was suggested as this year’s theme I thought it fitting because I shall be stepping down as (the sometimes villainous) Chairman of Oxfayre after ten years.  It gives me the opportunity to thank all the Heroes of the village, Oxfayre Queens and the Oxfayre committee - past and present - who have supported me over the years.   Oxfayre will continue with Laura McClements at the helm.

We would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Mrs Hilda Booty who sadly died early this year.  Mrs Booty was Oxfayre Queen in 1997 at the age of 91 and made a special appearance at Oxfayre’s 18th birthday celebrations in 2009. This year’s Queen Chloe will be supported by Angel and Zac.

The Oxfayre Committee has once again worked hard throughout the year to bring together a great array of stalls, games, food, drink and musical entertainment to make this an enjoyable afternoon for the whole family.

Oxfayre is a non-profit making event that raises money for local needs and causes - we have been able to donate funds for many ventures this year.  We also had great pleasure in arranging three very successful free events since last year’s Oxfayre - a fantastic Fireworks display in November; the children’s party in January featuring Magic Olly and an Easter Egg Hunt in Mulberry Park.    Our first fund raising band night held in March was a great success and we hope to hold more of these in the coming months.  It is only with your help and support that we can continue with donations and events for local people to enjoy.

I would like to thank all of our generous sponsors, advertisers,  stall holders and the Oxfayre committee, for the invaluable support in putting on the 2010 show.  Thanks too, to you, for supporting this village event.

When the parade arrived at the Village Hall and field the Woodbridge Brass band struck up to entertain the visitors arriving for the festivities.

Following the Band the Kuk Sool Wan, martial arts group gave a fantastic demonstration of their skills.  Magic Olly followed to entertain the children with his magic and mayhem.  After Olly the Socasalsa group sashayed their stuff, and encourage many of the crowd to join them in a Salsa workshop.

The highlight of the afternoon was the Tug of War which gave the local he-men the chance to show off their strength and rope tugging acumen.  Thankfully nothing but pride was hurt in the process!

The afternoon ended with musical entertainment from Second Hand Blues.
